This perfectly titled disc featuring many of the most indelible names in R&B and the classic quiet storm format fits in perfectly with Shanachie Records' urban jazz aesthetic, which has included many all-star tribute albums amidst the solo recordings by its diverse roster. But rather than dub this a valentine to mostly classic R&B songs with a few new tracks created in its spirit, it's actually a more personal reflection by superstar R&B/jazz drummer/producer Connors, whose vast résumé as an artist and presence behind the boards (and skins) over the years has netted him an incredible Rolodex. One of the very few soul groups from Nassau, the Beginning of the End had one hit in 1971, the scintillating "Funky Nassau." They recorded an album of the same name that year, then dropped out of sight. This CD (a reissue from Rhino Records) shows that this group had a lot more to offer than the one hit that characterized them. But I guess we shall never know. Get real funky with this one!

Purple Rain been Prince' 6th Album and is the soundtrack to the film of the same name. The record earns highest acclaims by the critics and can be find and nearly all best of lists.
