Devastated over his breakup with his girlfriend, Carter Webb leaves L.A. to stay with his wacky Grandma in her suburban Detroit home, across the street from the Hardwicke family. As Carter struggles to reconcile his own inner conflicts, he is drawn into the pains and loves of the Hardwicke women -- all of whom, in their way, fall in love with Carter, and all of whom, in their way, help him find his way back.


Carter Webb (Adam Brody) has just been dumped by his true love Sophia (Elena Anaya). Heartbroken, he moves to Michigan to take care of his ailing grandmother. Once there, he gets mixed up in the lives of the women who live across the street: Sarah Hardwicke (Meg Ryan), the mother of two daughters, Paige, and older sister Lucy. Through his relationships with these women, as well as with his grandmother, Carter discovers that vacancy, which once felt like an end, was only just the beginning of something else.
